Hi! I'm a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Milano-Bicocca working on the project CROSSING with Beatrice Giustolisi. In this project, we investigate the impact of bilingualism on the assignment of meaning during sentence comprehension, exploring whether code-switching can be used as a cue influencing bilinguals’ parsing strategies.
Previously, I was a Martí i Franquès / Marie SkÅ‚odowska Curie Actions COFUND PhD fellow at Universitat Rovira i Virgili enrolled in the programme "Cognitive Science and Language", under the supervision of Professors Evelina Leivada and Isabel Oltra-Massuet. In my PhD project, I investigated how bilingualism can influence language processing, specifically focusing on the sociolinguistic factors that shape the bilingual experience. As an Italian native speaker with ties to different Italian regions, I inquired into bilingual speakers of "standard" Italian and non-standard languages, generally defined Italian dialects although being structurally independent linguistic systems. Another part of my project was devoted to the impact of linguistic register variation on the processing of grammatical illusions by monolingual speakers and bilingual speakers of standard and non-standard languages.
Before starting my PhD at Universitat Rovira i Virgili, I studied at Università degli Studi di Pavia, where I got my BA in Lettere Moderne and my MA in Theoretic and Applied Linguistics. My MA thesis project investigated linguistic stereotypes about different varieties of Italian, a topic I also treated in my BA research. My MA work delved into the development of linguistic attitudes in native children of Italian and in learners of Italian as Second Language.
You can find more on my research interests and work experience in my CV.
